Historic Preservation Awards

The Washington Historic Preservation Commission has presented Angela Holmes with the Curb Appeal Award for her outstanding renovation of the historic property at 1322 East 5th Street.

Holmes’s renovation preserved the home’s character while modernizing it for today’s standards. The project included the removal of plaster from the 1899 home to expose original brick walls, new insulation, drywall, updated electrical and plumbing systems, and the installation of a new kitchen with custom cabinets and appliances. Two full bathrooms were added, the original hardwood floors were refinished, and a new HVAC system and ductwork were installed.

Exterior improvements included tuckpointing, full window replacement, and removal of a dilapidated outbuilding, greatly enhancing the property’s appearance and structural integrity.

The Curb Appeal Award recognizes projects that preserve historic charm while contributing to the beauty and vitality of Washington’s neighborhoods.
