Washington Designates Fair Parade Route and Fairgrounds as "Festival Districts"
WASHINGTON, MO – To enhance public safety during the annual Washington Town & Country Fair, the areas used for the Fair Parade and the fairgrounds will be designated as "Festival Districts." This designation prohibits all animals, with specific exceptions, from these areas during designated times.
________________________________________
Fair Parade Restrictions
On August 3, 2025, from 3:00 PM until the parade's conclusion, the public property along the parade route will be designated as a Festival District. This restriction applies only to public areas; residents are permitted to keep pets on their private property.
The parade route is as follows:
• Begins at Main and Cedar Streets.
• Travels East on Main Street.
• Turns South on Jefferson Street.
• Turns West on 5th Street and travels to Elks Lodge.
________________________________________

Fairgrounds Restrictions
From August 6 through August 10, 2025, the entire Washington Town & Country Fairgrounds will be designated a Festival District for the duration of the Fair.
________________________________________
Ordinance and Enforcement
A Washington city ordinance prohibits animals in designated Festival Districts. Police Chief Jim Armstrong emphasized, "This designation is crucial for everyone's safety. In large crowds, even well-behaved animals can become nervous and react unpredictably, potentially leading to aggression. We want to prevent any incidents and ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all attendees."
Exceptions to the ordinance include:
• Livestock participating in the Fair
• Animals participating in the parade
• Service animals
• Police canines
Individuals who violate the ordinance will first be asked to remove their animal from the designated area. Refusal to comply will result in a charge, punishable by up to a $500 fine and/or 90 days in jail.
The Washington Police Department appreciates the community's cooperation in helping create a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone attending the Washington Town & Country Fair.
