Thanks to everyone who joined us for the First Impact presentation tonight at WPD! We had a great turnout—nearly 20 parents and teens came out to learn how to stay safe on the road as a new driver, or how to help their new driver build safe habits behind the wheel. We’re excited to share that we’ll be working with Think First Missouri to bring two more First Impact sessions to Washmo during the 2025–2026 school year. Stay tuned for more info! #FirstImpact #TeenDriverSafety #Washmo #ThinkFirstMissouri

**Washington Middle School Students Learn the Importance of Seatbelt Safety**
This afternoon, SRO Ben Hellebusch and Deputy Mike Soriano visited with Washington Middle School students during lunch to discuss the critical importance of wearing a seatbelt. To give students a visual understanding of the consequences of seatbelt use (or lack thereof), Deputy Soriano brought along a rollover simulator.
The simulator demonstrated the difference between being properly belted and unbelted during a rollover. It was a powerful lesson that no one can afford to ignore: seatbelts save lives!
Thank you to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office for sending Dep. Soriano over with the simulator.

Understand the rules and stages for new teen drivers
Gain valuable safety strategies and driving tips that could save lives
As Memorial Day approaches, we enter the "100 Deadliest Days for Teen Drivers," a period marked by an increase in fatal crashes involving teen drivers. Here are some shocking facts:
🚨 Distracted Driving: Nearly 6 in 10 teen crashes are caused by distractions, with electronics and teen passengers being the biggest culprits.
👥 Teen Passengers: The risk of a fatal crash increases with each additional teen passenger.
⚡ Speeding: Almost 30% of fatal crashes involving teen drivers are the result of speeding.
🎯 Seatbelts Save Lives: Teens who wear seatbelts are significantly less likely to suffer fatal or serious injuries.
Proper education and experience are crucial in preventing these dangerous behaviors. This presentation will help ensure your teen is prepared for safe driving! Remember, teens often mirror the driving behaviors they see at home, so it’s important to set a positive example behind the wheel. Be sure to set a good one for them to follow!
