The Washington Volunteer Fire Company sadly announces the passing of Sue Lampe, wife of Firefighter Al Lampe, and a Charter Member of the WVFC Auxiliary She was a smart, kind, hardworking lady and will be missed very much. Our prayers go out to the Lampe family. Sue E. Lampe (nee Gradl) was born in Alton, IL, on June 22, 1943, to Clement A. Gradl and Marcella M. (nee Pfeiffer). She graduated from Holy Family Grade School and St. John the Baptist High School in South St. Louis. In 1991, she earned an Associate of Arts degree from East Central College, Union, MO. She married Allan H. Lampe at Holy Family Catholic Church on June 20, 1964. The couple moved to Washington, MO, in April 1966. Sue was the devoted mother of Paul A. (Cindy) and David J. (Nicki), the loving grandmother of Jefferson “Jake” (Brenna) Lampe, Josephine “Jo” (Carter) Datz, Charlie Lampe, Michael Lampe and Margaret “Maggie” Lampe and the great-grandmother of Clara and Felicity Lampe (Jefferson and Brenna). Sue played a major role in the raising of her grandchildren, and she treasured every minute spent with them. She is also survived by one brother, James J. Gradl, Hudson, Florida, and one sister, Marilyn Lavac (Ed), Affton, Missouri. During the time Paul and David attended grade school at Our Lady of Lourdes, Sue was the school librarian, initially as a volunteer and later receiving minimum wage. The library was her passion. She worked to stock it with books and other materials that would make students want to read. Sue was a charter member of the Washington Volunteer Fire Company [WVFC] Auxiliary. She worked at many auxiliary projects and functions, served as treasurer, and, for a time, was the Washington Fire Department’s unofficial clown. For about five years during Paul and David’s college years at Lindenwood University, Sue worked in the ticket room at Six Flags. She earned several awards for outstanding customer service. As a member of the Washington Historical Society and the Four Rivers Genealogy Society, Sue enjoyed the challenges of researching local history and helping people find their roots. Sue enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s concerts, plays, programs, and sporting events. She found time to work for Lourdes St. Bernadette’s Sodality during “rummage sale” week and to help at the Lourdes parish festival. Sue checked an item off her bucket list when she became a Lourdes quilter. She continued putting stitches in quilts until deteriorating eyesight forced her retirement. She passed peacefully on April 9, 2024, surrounded by family who loved her. Sue had a strong belief in angels. She was Allan’s tower of strength. The world is a better place because she was in it. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 15, 4pm to 6pm at Oltmann Funeral Home in Washington, MO. Funeral mass will be Thursday, May 16 at 10am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Washington, MO. Memorials to: the WVFC Auxiliary, St. Vincent DePaul Society, or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Do you live on a farm? Using a vegetated buffer at least 25' from cropland to water can help keep sediment, fertilizers, and pesticides from entering nearby streams, rivers, lakes, and ponds. https://cra.missouri.edu/topics/buffer-strips/ #SWPPP #washmo #farmBMP #waterwisewednesday

𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝗜𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵. Missouri's preliminary 2023 statistics indicate there were 2,459 crashes involving motorcycles. In these crashes, 2,141 people were injured and 175 people were killed. Remember..... Drivers: Carefully check oncoming traffic before turning, changing lanes or crossing roadways. Motorcycles are easy to miss. Driver's need to pay extra attention and be aware of their surroundings. Signal your intentions to turn or change lanes. Stay off your phones and drive sober. Share the road. Riders: Don't assume you're visible. Stay out of blind spots and signal your intentions to turn or change lanes. Don't weave in and out of traffic or drive faster than the speed limit allows. Don't engage in stunt riding. Wear proper safety gear. Even though your not legally required to wear a DOT approved helmet in Missouri (mandatory for anyone under 26 years old or operating on a learners permit), wear one anyway. You only have one noggin...... Ride sober & pay attention. Share the road. One last thing, don't blow grass onto the roadway when you cut grass. Aside from being illegal; its dangerous and it can cause a motorcycle to wreck since it can cause the tires to loose contact with the pavement.
